The Interview
The Interview is a 10-minute short film developed as a club-wide production by the Undergraduate Film Council. The film follows a financially stressed recent college graduate as he navigates an increasingly chaotic and absurd “high-stakes” job interview at a grocery store.

The project was made possible by a team of over 20 cast and crew members throughout the Spring 2026 semester and is currently in post-production. I am the President of the Undergraduate Film Council and took on multiple roles as Producer, Writer, and Editor. In this capacity, I oversaw the project from early development through production and into post-production, ensuring both creative cohesion and organizational efficiency across all stages of the filmmaking process.
Process
Based on an original concept by Stella Schwab, who is also the film’s writer and director, The Interview explores themes of the modern job market, the uncertainty of early adulthood, and the often rigid systems that young people must navigate. The film uses comedy and heightened scenarios to reflect the very real pressures faced by recent graduates entering the workforce.
As President of the Undergraduate Film Council, I initiated and structured this club-wide project. My goal was to create an opportunity for members to collaborate on a unified film while gaining hands-on experience in a professional-style production environment.

Following the Fall 2025 semester of workshops on ideation, screenwriting, and filmmaking fundamentals, we concluded with a pitch day featuring six student proposals. Based on member votes and Executive Board discussion, we selected Stella Schwab’s concept to move forward.
For the first two months of the spring semester, I collaborated with two writer-directors of the film, Stella and Manuel, through six weekly script development sessions.
After finalizing the script, we held a crew call and received 20+ applications. As a producer, I assigned roles based on members’ interests and skills. To prepare for production, Manuel and I led three workshops focused on filmmaking practices and on-set workflow, which also served as rehearsals to ensure a smooth shoot.
I then managed the casting process: organizing an open call for student actors for the lead role and securing two professional actors for the film. Also, I worked closely with two additional producers to coordinate key logistics, including locations, props, and scheduling. Balancing the availability of actors and core crew across four shoot days was a challenge, but through strong collaboration and communication, we developed a schedule that worked for all departments. Throughout the process, I have relied on Google Workspace to manage schedules and documentation.
Production took place over four days, where I focused on time management, cross-department coordination, and real-time problem-solving to keep the project on track.
In post-production, I am helping with the editing and sound design using Adobe Premiere Pro and Pro Tools.
The Interview is a 10-minute narrative short film, premiering at the Gollin Film Festival at the University of Rochester.
This experience strengthened my skills in leadership, organization, and creative direction. As President of the Undergraduate Film Council, I successfully rebuilt engagement in a previously inactive organization by rebuilding its structure, introducing consistent programming, and fostering a collaborative environment.
